Who are You?

Hi! I am Kristen Bassick, the woman behind the Sprouts.

I live in Chester Springs, Pennsylvania. We are about an hour west of Philadelphia. I am a dyed-in-the-wool suburban Mom. Just recently traded in my minivan for a SUV - a walking stereotype! I have two kids - a daughter (who we really, truly call "Sprout" or "Sprouticus") and son (we often call him "Tater", which I won't even attempt to explain).

I am also truly a skin care product junkie, I must try every lotion, cream, cleanser, and whatever-else-they-come-up-with that comes on the market.

About two years ago, my husband, Mike, looked at me and said "Wouldn't it be easier to just MAKE this stuff?" At which point I laughed and thought, "You silly man, you can't just MAKE lotions and creams and things!" And I set off to prove how insane this idea was. And I found out that YES YOU CAN! You can make things and they can be GREAT!

Poor Sprout had the crunchiest legs and the crispiest chapped...well, face really. And little Tater had the reddest cheeks and flakiest elbows. And the options we faced were gross and greasy, or weird and smelly, or pink and sparkly. And because it is the sort of thing I do, I bought it all and tried it all. And at the end of the day, the kids were still crispy and crunchy and chapped, and sometimes slightly glittery.

So, armed with my new knowledge (I can make stuff!), and the problem-solving skills that my Dad always said I had, I set off to find the solution.

And I made some great stuff. I mean really great stuff. I used the Lip Stuff every night and my lips never chapped. Sprout's legs weren't itchy (when she let me put the cream on her, anyway). Tater's cheeks were pink and kissable. Mike even tried some cream on his dried out winter hands and liked it!

And I thought: I must share this with my family and friends and neighbors and really anyone with a crunchy kid (or chapped lips, or crunchy hands)!

My brother is amazingly talented and took an extremely lame pencil sketch that I gave him and came up with our Sprouticus mascot and logo. He also developed all of our labels.

My Mom has started handing out samples to everyone she meets. My Dad is keeping a tube of Front Lawn Cream for Extra Crunchy Kids by the sink - he says it reminds him of golfing.

I don't make all of the products in the kitchen anymore, but these are the same recipes I developed and tested on my family. Full of good natural ingredients. Skin care products that are effective and feel good and smell fun. Because really, kids shouldn't crunch!

I hope your family enjoys them, too!

I'd love to know what you think!
